Dry texter, or losing interest?

By the Biosai coaching team · Updated

Short replies on their own tell you very little. Some people put all their energy into meeting and almost none into typing. What separates a dry texter from someone losing interest is whether they still show up: they answer your questions, say yes to plans, and keep the conversation alive.

Three signs it's just their texting style

They answer, even briefly. "Yeah haha" to a joke is dry. A short reply to your actual question still shows attention.

They say yes to plans. A dry texter who accepts a date, or suggests one, is interested. Someone who is fading avoids concrete plans and stays vague.

They have always texted this way. Scroll back to the first days of the conversation. If the style has not changed, it is probably just how they text. If they were chatty before and short now, the change is the signal, not the shortness.

What doesn't work

Matching their energy with equally short messages usually ends the conversation: two dry texters seldom make it to a date.

Writing longer, keener messages to compensate leaves you carrying the whole chat. It feels bad and it rarely changes how they text.

Asking "Why are your texts so short?" turns a difference in style into a confrontation.

What to send

Change the format, not the volume. Dry texters tend to answer questions that are easy to reply to and hard to reply to in one word.

Direct. "I get the feeling you're more of a talk-in-person person. Want to grab a drink this week?"

Warm. "Important question: what's the best thing you've eaten this month?"

Light. "Rate your week from 1 to 10. Explanations optional but encouraged."

The direct one is usually the best move. If the texting is dry but they say yes to meeting, you have your answer.

When to stop

If they decline or dodge two concrete plans and the replies keep getting shorter, it is no longer a texting style. Stop writing for a few days. If they want the conversation, they will restart it.
